Have questions and/or concerns about Crime Stoppers? Below is a list of frequently asked questions we receive. If you have a question not answered here contact us.
- What is Crime Stoppers?
- Cartersville-Bartow County Crime Stoppers is a program which involves the public, the media and law enforcement in the fight against crime. It offers anonymity and cash rewards to people who provide information leading to the arrest and filing of criminal charges against offenders. Anonymity overcomes fear of involvement and cash overcomes apathy.
- How does Crime Stoppers work?
- A report of a wanted person or crime is given through the TV, the radio or the newspaper. A person in the community having information regarding the person(s) or crime calls the 24-hour tip line. The operator receives the information without asking for personal information from the "tipster". A confidential reference number is assigned and given to the caller. Callers then can check back often to see if their information qualifies for a reward.
- Do I have to give my name?
- No. You will receive a confidential "tip" number. All calls are confidential.
- How do I get paid if I'm anonymous caller?
- You are given a confidential tip number. You use this number to check on the status of your information. If your information results in an arrest or filing of criminal charges, or if a criminal is apprehended, arrangements are made for you to receive your reward in cash and preserve your anonymity.
- How are reward amounts determined?
- The Board of Directors, depending on the circumstances of each case, determines the reward amount, ranging from $50.00 - $10000.00.
- Who administers the program?
- The Crime Stoppers Board of Directors is comprised of concerned citizens of the Cartersville-Bartow County area who oversee the operation of the program. Cartersville-Bartow County Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization under section 501-3c for the IRS code, and is funded through donations from the public. Contributions are tax deductible.
- Is Crime Stoppers a TV show?
- No. It is a method of collecting information to help solve a crime; however, many TV stations run features to help publicize Crime Stoppers.
- Can I email a tip to Crime Stoppers?
- No. Because of security limitations, we can't guarantee the anonymity of email tips. We cannot treat any information we receive via email as an official Crime Stoppers tip.
